Situated in the foothills of Monchique, the magical charm of Caldas de Monchique transports you to a different era. The smell of eucalyptus trees and sub-tropical plants amid the freshness of the mountains is an idyllic combination. With the feel of a rural setting Caldas is only 15 minutes from the centre of Portimão which boasts many restaurants and shopping areas, 20 minutes from the beautiful Coastal towns of Alvor and Praia da Rocha with their Award Winning Beaches and the Historic Town of Silves with its Medieval Castle is also just an easy 10 minute drive away. With the main motorway only 10 minutes away, the journey to Faro Airport is only 50 minutes.

The county town of Monchique, which gives its name to a range of mountains, is close by, with many shops, bars and restaurants. Despite its small size there is a hospital, secondary and primary schools, and a crèche. The beautiful Golfe do Morgado Championship golf course, set in rolling parkland, is less than ten minutes away.

Yet, despite the picturesque and tranquil surroundings, there is entertainment of a more high-octane variety - the new, Formula One-specification Autódromo Internacional do Algarve Motor Racing Circuit is now open, just outside Portimão. Also for the more energetic of us, the woods offer spectacular trails for walking, mountain-biking, horse-riding, etc.
